6: High School Reunion

Well, I recently went to my ten year high school reunion (ten years!). Now, going into these kind of things is very difficult. One reason is because of your attire. Do you go casual or do you go formal? Tie or no tie? For me, I was rather concerned because at the time, I had recently watched “Grosse Pointe Blank” again and really did not want to give the impression of someone pretending NOT to be a professional killer, so I erred to the side of caution on this one. Then there’s the meeting and greeting process. Do you hug or shake hands? Should your responses be more than “How are you?” “Really?” “Talk to ya later, then.”? Should you ask for a picture only because your memory’s so bad and have a narrow range of focus? Always vary in meet and greet. Now some would consider this a good opportunity to get lucky (as many men would). In my case, that was highly unlikely due to the following: my schedule (as I flew in for my reunion), lack of single women, and of course, modesty. So yes, my dance card was empty that night. In the end though, that wasn’t such a bad thing. I really had a good time, and was really happy to see a lot of the people I knew (and in some cases tormented) back then and see that things were working out well for them. Having parents who didn’t go to their ten-year reunions and a sister who almost did (but not quite) does tend to darken the view on showing up. However, I had a great time and it turns out I really missed high school. Man, I can’t believe I said that. Must be getting old… "Life is full of surprises...it advertises...nothing."
